Handgun Wear & Carry (CCW) Class

Maryland State Police and NRA Approved Firearm Training for Handgun Wear and Carry Permit

Our firearm training course is approved by the Maryland State Police and NRA, meeting the requirements to apply for the Maryland Handgun Wear and Carry Permit. The course consists of approximately 16 hours for initial applicants and 8 hours for renewal, split between classroom instruction and live shooting at the range.

Course Content:

• Maryland Firearm Law
• Home Firearm Safety
• Handgun Mechanism and Operation
• Practical components such as drawing from a holster, firearm failures, reloading, and mindset for self-defense

Qualification Requirements:

• Designated security personnel (security guards, private detectives, special police, armored car drivers/guards) must shoot a practical police course of at least 50 rounds from no further than 25 yards, scoring at least 70% accuracy.
• All other applicants must shoot a course of at least 25 rounds from no further than 15 yards, scoring at least 70% accuracy.

Certification: Successful completion of this class does NOT guarantee the issuance of a Handgun Wear and Carry Permit by the Maryland State Police.

Class Details:

• Length: Approximately 16 hours for Initial, 8 hours for Renewal
• Fee: $250 for Initial, $125 for Renewal
• Range Fee: Approximately $20

Student Requirements:

• Maryland issued driver’s license or government ID for the application process
• Arrival on time and attendance for the entire duration of the class
• Comfortable attire (no V-neck shirts, tank tops, or open-toe shoes)
• Water, snacks, and/or lunch (optional)
• Own handgun (if using during live fire) in a carrying case, unloaded, and cleared by instructors
• Holster (if already owned)
• Light zip-up jacket
• Ammunition (minimum 100 rounds for security personnel, 50 rounds for other applicants)
• Paper target for qualification (provided)
• Ear muffs or ear plugs (provided)
• Safety glasses (provided)
• Notepad and pen
• Laptop (optional)
• Signed Waiver Release and Student Info Form (download HERE)

Included:

• Ear and eye protection if needed
• Paper target for qualification
• Classroom instruction and training certificate upon successful completion
• Assistance with the application process if required
• Photos: Color Passport-Size photograph (if needed)

Not Included:

• Live Scan Fingerprints (required separately)
• Maryland State Police application fees ($75 for initial, $50 for renewal)
• Ammunition (except 22LR caliber if using our guns)

Note: No ammunition is allowed in the classroom; it must be left in your vehicle. Strict safety protocols are enforced throughout the course.
